Social Contribution Activities / Initiatives in Local Communities
Social contribution activities
The Mitsubishi Paper Mills group aims to develop together with the local community, and has established a “social contribution activity policy” to proactively interact with the community through our business activities. Each site is carrying out various contribution activities that utilize the characteristics of each base, including the Ecosystem Academy, which utilizes the forests owned by our group.
Social Contribution Activities Policy
- Environmental protection: We will maintain the irreplaceable global environment and contribute to the creation of a recycling-oriented society.
We are committed to protecting the global environment through our business activities, including supporting “FSC®-certified forests” and collaborating with NPO to support forest thinning. - Living alongside local communities: We are strengthening our community-based social contribution activities.
Mills and offices are playing key roles in actively working to engage in and contribute to the development of their local communities. - Supporting volunteer activities: We will support our employees' voluntary social contribution activities.
Social Contribution Expenditure
Mitsubishi Paper Mills will continue to operate as a company that contributes to a more sustainable society. We hope to be of service to society in various fields such as academia, research, and education.
Initiatives in local communities
Communication with the local community
The Mitsubishi Paper Mills Group aims to grow together with communities and has formulated its Social Contribution -Direction of Activities to proactively interact with communities through its business activities.Through activities such as those conducted by the Ecosystem Academy (see page 50), which uses forests owned by Mitsubishi Paper Mills, we undertake a number of social contribution activities that take advantage of the characteristics of each of our business sites.
Contribution to local communities
Traffic Safety Handbook for Mothers and Children
The Hachinohe Mill donated 2,350 copies of the “Traffic Safety Handbook for Mothers and Children” to the Hachinohe District Traffic Safety Association to help prevent traffic accidents among new schoolchildren. They were distributed to new first graders at 59 elementary schools in six municipalities: Hachinohe, Hashikami, Gonohe, Oirase, Rokunohe, and Shingo. Donations have been made almost every year since 1969, and a total of 231,360 copies have been donated.
Braille Calendars
The Braille Calendar, which began production in 1997, will be in its 27th year with the 2023 edition. We mainly donate them to local welfare organizations and Braille libraries through our bases. We use embossed Braille that does not use plastic, and we use FSC® certified paper, which is environmentally friendly and can be recycled after use.
Community Cleanup Activities
Every one of our business sites regularly undertakes activities to beautify and clean up the surrounding areas and promotes initiatives to develop comfortable urban environments together with local communities.
As an example of its efforts, in October 2020, the Mitsubishi Paper Engineering Head Office and Hachinohe Plant was accredited as an “Aomori Hometown Waterside Supporter” and registered as a “Hachinohe Clean Partner”, and conducted clean-up activities in the area covered by the Gonohe River (1,800 m on both banks) in October 2021. In addition, the Toho Special Pulp Oyama Mill participates in the “Green and Light Foster Parent System” promoted by Oyama City, and is working monthly to maintain and improve the road environment.
